BROWNBACK CONGRATULATES TWO KANSAS TEACHERS
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today congratulated Sherry Helus and DeAnn Swofford, two Kansas elementary school teachers who were awarded Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. "My fellow and Kansans and I are very proud of Sherry Helus and DeAnn Swafford, two wonderful teachers who work hard to provide their students with the best education," said Brownback. "It is important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our educators. Teaching can be a very challenging profession, and good teachers have a huge impact on our students." Sherry Helus teaches at West Elementary School in Wamego, and DeAnn Swofford teaches at Pioneer Ridge Middle School in Gardner. The award is administrated by the National Science Foundation and recognizes outstanding educators for their contributions to the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.
