CULTURE OF LIFE

Sam on podiumLife is beautiful. A culture of life embodies the beauty of every human life from the moment of conception forward. Promoting and defending a culture of life is critical for our nation's social and economic health. A culture of life informs and impacts all reaches of society, though the degree of its impact is perhaps most realized through our national position on issues like abortion, bioethics, eugenics, euthanasia, and stem cell research. In particular, as individuals and as a culture we are currently facing great challenges in the field of bioethics. These challenges are forcing us to discuss the meaning of human life, as well as what it means to be a member of the human race. How we respond to these challenges will impact the entire future of humanity

I believe that efforts to create human beings by cloning mark a new and decisive step toward turning human reproduction into a manufacturing process in which children are made in laboratories to preordained specifications.

Life is a precious gift. I believe that we should all play a special role in seeking to protect and defend every human life.

Stem cellsStem Cell Research
I think Congress needs to discuss some of the issues that have been raised regarding federal funding of destructive embryo research. My position is that federally funded human embryonic stem cell research is illegal, immoral and unnecessary. Instead, we should channel federal funding toward ethical and more promising research in adult and cord blood stem cells.

Unborn children can experience pain, and they can certainly respond to touch from outside the womb.  Any woman who has been blessed with carrying a baby in the second trimester can tell you this.  It is time to look at the unborn child, and recognize that it is really a young human, who can feel pain and should be treated with care.
